How to increase SEO. As I’ve written in recent posts, I am new to website creation, blogs and especially Search Engine Optimization #SEO. As of this date, I have 15 posts and I note that 3 of them got a green light for #SEO. I wanted to know how and why because it was sort of an accident to get a good grade for #SEO which I barely understand. I should note that I use simple themes & plugins that do not require coding.
The more I read about #SEO, the more I understand and apply to posts. I thought to write a post to others who may want to know more about the basics (really, the basic basics).
Here is what I discovered about my posts that gathered the most interest. Here’s what I did correctly:
- First and foremost, make your website relate to only one topic about your business.
- Pick post topics that are relevant. In other words, important to what people are looking for today.
- Not too long, not too short . . . 300 to 500 words is ideal. (I hope this won’t be more than 500!)
- Stick to the point. How-to posts are popular. How often have you begun a search with “how do I…”?
- Choose specific & descriptive keywords that apply to your site & your posts.
- Use keywords in every way possible. In:
- the title of your website,
- page titles,
- heading of posts & subheadings too,
- your post content,
- the description of your website & posts,
- the title of images or videos in your posts,
- the categories of your posts, and
- with hashtags (I use #writing, #blogging, #SEO, #self publishing, #history).
When I first began blogging, I did not fill in all the places where I could add keywords and descriptions because I did not know the importance of how to increase #SEO. It was all I could do to develop a post and relevant image and get it online. Now I’ve learned a bit. If you want to know how to increase #SEO (see, I used the title of my post within the content here, twice), you can start by applying keywords as noted above. You’ll get the green light on your #SEO too (IF you’ve added an #SEO plugin to your website).
394 words, counting this last sentence . . . good to go!
